Crossing from one side of the 101 Freeway anywhere along the downtown stretch between 3rd and 8th is confirmation of why nobody walks in LA.   For a City of palm trees and exotic gardens it’s hard to fathom why we would allow this  sterile concrete canyon and hot sidewalk to hold center stage in the center of our downtown core.  On top of that there is also the soundscape of  a crazy Jetsons like buzz of high speed traffic  There has to be a solution that brings relief to our downtown residents and office workers.  #DTLA

 While not a new solution to this situation a cap park would be innovative in this location given that other cities brought urban outdoor spaces to reality by covering their downtown core freeway blights with a parks .  Here is an opportunity to change the neighborhood’s whole identity with the addition of green lawns and play fields in what is also a residential neighborhood.  In addition a cap park would provide outdoor festival space that does not require closing streets to traffic.
