Provocative uber-artist (an artist skilled in over five different media), Brother Andy is a prolific auteur film-maker with over 350 films on Youtube, over 100,000 photographic images as a photgrapher, plus countless paintings and sculptures as a fine artist to his credit. His digital collage image, ‘Jesus Chimp’, is considered by some to be a masterpiece of the Intriguism Art Method (‘retro-futurism’), a creative process which he developed. The energetic creator produced highly-effective educational films for people with cognitive disabilities. The creative line for Downtown L.A. goes back to the 1970s. User-Artist Brother Andy says that the imaginative materials produced by Downtown LA are outside the box. He says Angelino artists are not deconstructionalists and not negative in their vision and works; rather they see and create a positive type of future in their artwork that is both abstratct and visionary. Compare the L.A. art scene to New York City where artists are trying harder to be seen, and contract it with artists of Europe who are busy trying to keep traditions going. In fact, Andy says that the California state tourism board should make their next TV commercial about the artists of Downtown Los Angeles because they represent the essence of California reflecting through their work.
DTLA artists are cutting-edge, are not nasty or negative, but very upbeat according to His Grace. Beginning in the 1970s, California artists pioneered bright acrylics that are especially reflective and filled with light. Southern California, like Italy, features art infused with soft light. Artists worldwide come to Los Angeles for its natural light. Other key ingredients of the Downtown Los Angeles art scene are derived from the SoCal lifestyle: about the food, wine
— showing that the local area art is primarily about culture. Exploding in importance for the whole world, the Downtown L.A. art scene reflects a deep understanding of art and life, according to Brother Andy. He says that the new Broad Museum is different from museums of New York City and elsewhere because the modern art museum is traditional only in that it is an exhibition, and unlike traditional museums, the Broad is cutting edge regarding today’s lifestyle.
