Balcony Bar Table: How to Build It the Easy Way

420 S San Pedro St #631 loft condo unit for sale, transformed by easy balcony bar table

Turn a piece of wood into a cute, efficient balcony table. Here’s how we made it:

Smaller balconies sometimes call for bigger ideas when it comes to making them functional, fun and beautiful. For this small covered patio balcony at Little Tokyo Lofts unit 631, the home sellers originally had two footstool-sized low chairs on the balcony. While they matched and fit well, they were lacking in comfort, utility and dignity, being so low to the floor. To lift the spirits of this balcony, and to add more function and purpose, we found the perfect bar table that fits well, and clamps right onto the top of the balcony rail. We’ve also added two bar stools and a bench. Now, the balcony can be used for drinks, food, laptop, while seating four.

See the new balcony bar in person.

From a company in Holland called Balkon Bar, this balcony rail-top bar table is reasonably priced, perfectly fits the rail — and fits the bill. They cannot ship the wood to the U.S., but the hardware and instructions can be shipped. A 6 ft x 11.5 inch wood plank can then be purchased from Lowes, with three simple cuts done at no cost by Lowes. The wood then only needs sanding, stain, assembly and installation. We stained our poplar with navy blue stain to accent the aqua gray paint of Little Tokyo Lofts courtyard. It’s easy to clamp on to the balcony rail with the hardware. Use two people with very good grips when installing onto the rail, because gravity really wants to make you drop some or all of the pieces six stories down to the ground. Check out the BalkonBar.com balcony bar table website and assembly video.

With the added value of a fun 4-person balcony, the loft is more precious than ever, and the asking price has been reduced early for Loft Blog readers! $357,000. PROPERTY DETAILS | TOUR VIDEO.
