Downtown Los Angeles Triforium, Halloween and Unclaimed Homes

Triforium Fridays

Music and lights free by L.A. City Hall

The Triforium was built in 1975 as a high tech artwork and public square tower of the arts, humanities and technology.  The six-story, 60-ton public sculpture at Fletcher Bowron Square in the Los Angeles Mall Civic Center complex stands out at the intersection of Temple and Main Streets in Downtown Los Angeles.  Architect Robert Stockwell commissioned artist Joseph Young to create the shining structure not far from the beautiful Higgins Building lofts.  #dtla #halloween #homes

Work From Home In Downtown LA How To Make Live/Work Productive and Effective

Biscuit Company Loft In Arts District.

Working from home can be a drain on your motivation. Getting up and preparing for your day is key to success in this endeavor. A strong case can be made for taking the extra time to plan your day and ensure your success. Here are my etiquette suggestions for proficiently working from a home office.

Do get up and ready. don’t just rolled out of bed into your chair. It puts a real drag on your motivation. the simple act of getting cleaned up and dressed in something other then what you slept in last night will give you loads of motivation. I could say, in this situation the comb is mightier than the coffee.

Don’t neglect to designate a workspace. I am lucky to have an office room, even though it is also the guest room. The goal is to set up a productivity station that has everything you will need to stay on task. Curling up on the couch, or propped up in your bed encourages rest and relaxation, not motivation and drive.

Don’t skip lunch. This is my hardest thing to follow through on. When you get busy or distracted, you often forget to take a meal break. Manage your time at your home office with the same respect you would if you were driving into the city for a traditional workday.

Do make your time count. It’s important to set boundaries when you telecommute. Your neighbor may think you are available for a 20-minute chat when she spots you out in your front yard taking a quick break. Ignore texts and turn your ringer on silent. It’s not necessary to feel guilty when prioritizing your time. I put my phone out of reach so while I can still hear it ring I don’t feel obliged to look at every alert.

Do maintain a regular schedule. Whether your routine requires an 8 to 5 work day, or you assign 4 solid hours of uninterrupted concentration, make an attempt to be consistent. I am on call for my boss and my clients.  I get an early start at 5:30 am.  I am sure to get a solid four hours in on my hardest tasks before I need to change priorities.   I follow my own advice and ignore texts that I can respond to later, and use my lunch time to run errands. I am diligent with my schedule and find it pays off to stick to a predictable routine.

In Downtown Los Angeles, there are exceptions to many of the rules. All buildings will vary on what type of work they will allow, how many customers may visit etc. None of the live/work lofts will let you have a cash register in your unit with a line coming out of the door. But even the residential properties will let you have a business client or two come every day for consultations etc. Here is a complete list of live work buildings around Downtown L.A. for sale and for lease click here.
