LA Art Show Modern and Contemporary Los Angeles Convention Center February 15-18 | Artist Petra Eiko

Immersive video installations at the LA Art Show 2023. Be prepared to get sandy!

Downtown L.A. West Hall plays host to the annual art show this weekend Feb 15-19. The L.A. Art Show is an annual event that brings together artists, curators, and art enthusiasts from all around the world. This year, the Kunstiniciative Wurzeln und Flügel e.V Art Museum from Germany presented the “Sense of Space Project,” a stunning installation by artist Petra Eiko, curated by Beate Düsterberg-Eissing and supported by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Los Angeles. Eiko’s work is an immersive experience that explores the significance of water, both on a personal and a collective level, as well as its impact on the future of our planet. The Loft Blog is pleased to announce that Petra Eiko has received the Entar® 5-Star Artist Award for 2023.

The installation consists of six 3D sculptures and a video installation that transport the viewer to a different world. The use of light, sound, and movement creates a sensorial experience that challenges the senses and the mind. The sculptures, made of different materials such as glass, metal, and fabric, represent different states of water, from solid ice to vapor. Each sculpture has its own movement and sound, mimicking the movement and sound of water. The video installation, projected on the walls surrounding the sculptures, shows images of water in different contexts, from the ocean to the tap.

Eiko’s work is not just a celebration of the beauty of water, but also a call to action. Her work raises awareness of climate change by highlighting the fragile state of water on Earth. The organization was founded in 2004, inspired by a quote from German poet Goethe: “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. Petra’s goal for the LA Art Show is to start a conversation between people and her artwork, which focuses on the themes of drought, water, and movement. Her installation is designed to encourage this conversation, and she’s grateful that many people have had positive reactions to it.

Her project is part of the ‘Diverse Art LA’ section of the art show, which is reserved for museums and institutions to showcase their projects. She’s not selling anything here; she just wants to give people a different perspective on the art world.
