In yesterday’s premium article called “Monetize Your Home,” I mentioned that most anyone can find valuables in their home to sell. This often includes art. Now that we are in the worst economic depression in recent history, many people find it necessary to sell personal belongings and household goods in order to keep enough cash on hand to survive the dark winter and beyond, plus gain extra cash to invest in the extremely good deals that a major economic crisis brings. Other valuables that can generate significant cash may include electronics, tools, musical instruments, expensive decor, cars, motorcycles, boats, precious metals, collectibles and other valuables. For art, the #1 key to determining value is the fame and desirability of the artist, and secondly, whether the work is a hand-crafted original, print or reproduction. For instance, a hand-painted Renoire will likely sell in the millions. A Calder screen print will likely go for around $1,000. A mass produced beautiful artwork by an unknown artist will usually sell for next to nothing.
