In the season of giving and hoping for a better future, the L.A. Loft Blog reminds everyone that receiving is a prerequisite so that we may give. Loft Blog readers are a very kind, giving and considerate bunch. As we feel increasing pressure to ignore our own livelihood, we risk falling, sliding down into a crevasse of limitations, in an environment that demands our fullest strength and resources. If we fail to focus enough on receiving, then we end up with nothing to give. Let’s re-double our efforts to ask tough questions, and to acknowledge that all jobs are essential. We must all receive more, not less, so that we have the resources to overcome all obstacles, while still coming out better able to help others in a more powerful way.
In a time of alarm, confusion and irrationality, we must not let fear or coercion distract us from the increasingly challenging tasks before us. We’re in for tough times amid a rapidly changing environment of bifurcating wealth. More than ever before, affluence and means become fleeting and flitting from the hands of the unwary to the clutches of the crafty. The honor of giving begins with the necessity of receiving. The path forward, the way of generosity, charity, survival and changing the lives of others, starts by being open to receiving more, not less. We’re in for an obstacle course of narrowing safety, and growing distraction. Rather than letting panic and overreaction prostrate us, we must open our eyes and hands in order to receive the resources that enable us to give more to others.
