Promoted by the State Parks Office of Historic Preservation, but administered by cities and counties, The Mills Act law gives monetary rewards to incentivize the restoration and preservation of qualified old buildings by property owners. Since 1972, the program has successfully help to restore and maintain many, often beautifully ornate, historically significant buildings. Today, there are 47 Mills Act condominium units in Greater Los Angeles offering major savings on property taxes. Downtown L.A. has the greatest bulk of these condos. For single family home dwellers, there are currently 46 Mills Act houses to choose from.
